ART ENCOUNTERS – Timisoara / Arad
APPEARANCE & ESSENCE
Exhibitions, Art in Public, Artist in Residence, Conversations
curated by Nathalie Hoyos and Rainald Schumacher
03.10. – 01.11.2015
Balancing between Appearance & Essence, as the main curatorial guideline for the Art Encounters, we, Nathalie Hoyos and Rainald Schumacher, put Romanian Art in the spotlight of our research. Thus looking from an outside position at the appearance of Romanian Art in search of and by daring to define its essence. The clear focus on the Romanian Art is balanced by integrating a few, very specific international artistic positions, which can support the reading and understanding of the nuances of the Romanian contribution to the global art discourse.
The Art Encounters is taking place in Arad and Timișoara , which is located at an old crossroad between the Ottoman and Habsburg Empires and has been through the centuries a melting pot of cultures and religions. At the heart of the Banat region, which became 1918 part of Romania, the Art Encounters seeks to integrate this historic European region into the international discourse.
